“Why don’t you just relax on a beach?”
That’s what people kept asking when I told them about my trip to Thailand. And honestly… fair question. If you’re going that far, why not just book a nice resort and switch off for a week?
I thought about it. I really did.
But the more I imagined it, the more it felt like something I’d already done before. Nice, easy, but also a bit forgettable. After a few days, everything would probably blur together—same view, same routine, same kind of days.
I wanted something different this time. Something I’d actually remember when I got back home.
That’s how I ended up choosing a cycling vacation across Thailand instead of a beach holiday.
It wasn’t the obvious choice. Not the easiest either. But it felt right.
Cycling in Thailand?

“Are you crazy? Cycling in Thailand? That’s impossible.”
I’ve heard that so many times now I kinda just smile when people say it.
But after cycling from Bangkok to Chumphon three times—and riding from Phuket through Khao Lak and Khao Sok all the way to Krabi—I can honestly say… it’s really not impossible. It’s way better than people expect.
For me, being on a bike is the only way to actually see Thailand. Not just the tourist version of it.
You move slower, and that changes everything. You notice random little things. You feel the heat, the smells, the roads… not just watch it all go by from a van window or something.
It just feels more real, I guess.

Why I Didn’t Choose a Beach Holiday
A beach holiday is nice. No doubt about that.
You wake up, eat, maybe swim, maybe nap… and repeat. And yeah, for a couple of days, that’s perfect.
But I know myself. After a while, I get restless. I start feeling like I’m wasting time instead of using it.
I didn’t just want to relax—I wanted to experience something.
Cycling gave me that.
What a Cycling Vacation in Thailand Actually Feels Like

Days are long, usually somewhere between 70–100 km. And yeah, the heat can be intense. There were moments where I questioned my holiday choice a bit.
But then something small happens—you pass a quiet village, someone waves at you, you stop for fresh fruit on the side of the road—and suddenly it all makes sense again.
You’re not rushing. You’re not skipping from one highlight to another. You’re just… in it.
And those small moments? They’re the ones you remember later.
It’s Not Easy — But That’s Kind of the Point
I won’t pretend it’s relaxing in the same way a resort is. Some days are tough.
But that effort changes how the whole trip feels.
At the end of the day, when you finally arrive, take a shower, sit down for dinner—it hits differently. You actually feel like you earned it.
That feeling sticks with you way longer than any all-inclusive experience ever could.
You See a Different Side of Thailand

This was probably the biggest thing for me.
When you travel by bike, you don’t just see the highlights. You see everything in between.
Small towns, local life, places that aren’t made for tourists.
It’s not always perfect or “Instagram nice,” but that’s exactly why it feels real.
So, Why Choose Cycling Over a Beach?

Because I didn’t just want a typical vacation. I wanted something I’d remember.
A beach holiday would have been easier. More comfortable, for sure.
But cycling across Thailand gave me something completely different—stories, experiences, and a connection to the place that I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.
And for me, that’s what travel is really about.
